The Lower Shin is separated into three beats all of which fish three rods each. From March to May it is primarily the lower two beats that are fished until the fish ascend the falls in late May; then the upper beat comes into play. It is the summer months that produce the best of the sport, when the fish have reached the upper river. From early July the lower beat is let.
