Nearly all of the publicly available fishing on the river Eden is controlled by the Eden Angling Association. Their fishings consist of approximately 15 miles of mainly double bank fishing extending from about 4 miles from the river head to the sea at St. Andrews.
The Eden is a back end river. For those seeking salmon the main runs start at the end of July and build to their peak in October. The fish are still very fresh even in late October. The average size is about 8 to 10 lbs but fish into the twenties have been caught. The usual method is either trotting worms or spinning but a few are taken on the fly each year.
Sea trout fishing is mainly on the lower river especially on the tidal reaches. The sea trout start coming into the river in February and continue to frequent the tidal waters throughout the season. The best of the sea trout fishing is in July August and September. Fishing at dusk with an intermediate or floating line is the usual practice, but they can also be taken during the day on a float and maggot.
