Doonfoot Fishings is the most prolific beat on the River Doon. The beat runs from the old railway bridge in Alloway to the sea, it’s meandering route is approximately 1 3/4 miles long and has 16 named pools. As it is the closest beat to the sea it excels in low water conditions, but can always be fished, due to the compensation water released from Loch Doon.
We fish 4 rods in July and 6 rods in August, September and October. The beat is divided into 3 sections and fishes 2 rods to each section, changing at 1.00pm. It therefore takes1 1/2 days to cover the whole beat. The fishing is varied with streamy water and pools and is recognised for its ease of fishing and wading, we have a number of disabled fishers who manage very well.
The principal fishing/lunch hut is our substantial ‘bothy’ located at the mouth of the river with heating, drying and toilet facilities. There is excellent vehicular access to the lower beats and bothy and a 200 yard walk to the upper beat. Tenants can fish with fly, spin or worm. The beat is normally let on a weekly basis, but during some periods it is possible to rent on a 3 day basis, Mon-Wed & Thur-Sat.
