North Esk – Loups and Dalbog

Set in the stunning North Esk valley and principally in private parkland, the fishing offers a variety of both challenging and productive angling opportunities. Within a few steps of the lodge you will experience the start of over 20 named pools. The spectacular Loups beat runs through Gannochy gorge, from just below the falls and fish ladder for approximately 1.5 miles and holds large numbers of fish, especially in early spring and autumn. The gorge has steep wooded banks and access to pools requires some climbing up and down.

From the Dalbog beat, further upstream you will experience the most dramatic and attractive stretches of water. The river and the character of the glen vary considerably over the stretch. The river changes from a wide and meandering stream with banks of bracken and birch scrub before entering a narrow gorge and a series of pools including the dramatic ‘Rocks of Solitude’ before opening out again and flowing through open, mixed farmland. With a variety of different pools, runs and falls, they all provide excellent fishing and some very good fly water.
