Annan – Chapelcroft

This beat is fished as part of the River Annan Small Streams Passport. The Water of Ae at this point is mainly confined between two well vegetated flood banks.

There are a series of pools intermingled short riffles and lots of shade for fish. There is a resident population of brown trout up to 1.5lb with a few larger ones.

Trout fishing in late April, May and June will be excellent with prodigious hatches of sedges and various up-winged species of fly.

Sea trout may appear from June onwards and, given water, fresh salmon will be present from October.

The salmon caught here at this time of year will often be bars of silver as the Ae has a large run of back end fish.
