Meggernie is towards the top end of Glen Lyon (west end) and the fishings are part of an Estate extending to some 37,000 acres on which there is an active farming operation, about 3,500 acres of forestry as well as very significant sporting operations including red deer stalking, rough shooting, loch fishing and river fishing. About fifteen families live on the Estate. Glen Lyon is reputedly the longest, loneliest and loveliest glen in Scotland
The hub of the estate is perhaps the small community of Bridge of Balgie where there is a Post Office, shop and tea-room as well as an arts and crafts shop. The beauty of the area attracts relatively big numbers of day visitors during the months of better weather and to add to their enjoyment the Estate is doing much to provide attractive walks and parking facilities. Other recreational pursuits are available including pony trekking.
The river running through the estate provides some exceptionally attractive scenery and it has to be admitted that many of our present fishing tenants who have been returning for many years come to enjoy the scenery and tranquility and the fishing is taken as a bonus.
