This beat has been one of the star performers on the Tweed in recent years. It has one of the best fish per rod averages and each year takes more salmon per yard of bank than any other beat on the river. Many tenants have had some excellent sport, including one who took 12 fish to his own rod in a single day, and two rods who shared 52 fish in five days!
The beat is two-thirds of a mile of the south bank just above Cornhill-on-Tweed and is fished by two rods. Almost all the water is usable, and with the deep water on the Learmouth side, most of the fish are quite close in.
There is a good hut with easy access from the adjacent road and plenty of parking space. There is a toilet and a boat when needed, together with a full time experienced ghillie who has a good reputation on the river and knows the water well.
The beat fishes best in medium to low waters and there is a good arrangement with the opposite beat whereby the two best pools, Learmouth Stream and Back of the Wall, alternate each day on an am/pm basis. Therefore you do not have any opposition on these pools.
